Teen Kauwe, a spy thriller, also stars Ronit Roy, Pavail Gulati and Isha Talwar. The makers unveiled the first look of the series at Prime Video’s 2026 content slate event in March. The story follows an ex-secret agent who was believed to be a mole and presumed dead for seven years. Forced to return, he sets out to identify the traitor who framed him while his own agency pursues him. The narrative blends betrayal, action and psychological intrigue.

Shaikh will next appear in Nyaya, in which she shares the screen with Aneet Padda. The film also features Arjun Mathur, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Raghubir Yadav and Rajesh Sharma in key roles.

She began her career as a child artiste in films such as Chachi 420 and One 2 Ka 4. She rose to national prominence with her portrayal of wrestler Geeta Phogat in Aamir Khan’s Dangal. Her most recent theatrical release was the romantic drama Gustaakh Ishq, which opened on November 28, 2025. In the film she portrayed Minni opposite Naseeruddin Shah and Vijay Varma.

She won the first round convincingly on all five judges’ scorecards before increasing the intensity in the second. Unable to withstand the pressure, Maselela was counted out and the referee halted the contest in Round 2.

In the men’s 80kg category, Ankush Panghal also reached the final after outclassing Canada’s Joshua Ofori 5-0. Displaying control, precision and composure throughout, Panghal secured his third successive unanimous decision of the campaign and moved within one win of the gold medal.

The semi-final successes of Choudhary, Jaismine and Panghal added to India’s growing medal tally in boxing at the Games and underlined the depth of the country’s contingent in Glasgow.

At a programme held at the Sports Complex in East Vinod Nagar, the Chief Minister said that under the scheme nearly 1.40 lakh girl students studying in Delhi government schools will receive free bicycles in a phased manner. She interacted with the students, enquiring about their studies, future aspirations and dreams.

“The programme is a celebration of Nari Shakti and of the collective resolve to empower every daughter through education,” Gupta said. She encouraged the girls to pursue education with confidence and dedication and to strive towards their goals.

Students also presented her with handmade paintings, which she appreciated, praising their creativity and wishing them a bright future.

Union Minister of State and Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, Patparganj MLA Ravinder Singh Negi, Director of Education and Sports Nitin Jindal, teachers and parents attended the event.

Addressing the gathering, Gupta said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has placed women-led development at the centre of the vision for a Viksit Bharat and has identified education as the most effective means of women’s empowerment. The Vidya Vahini scheme, she noted, has been launched in line with that vision.

The Chief Minister said the scheme will ensure safer and more convenient travel to school, save students’ time, improve regular attendance, reduce the likelihood of dropouts and ease the daily concerns of parents.

She described a bicycle as more than a mode of transport, calling it a symbol of freedom, self-confidence, dignity, self-reliance and opportunity. “The bicycle is not merely a gift but the beginning of a new journey,” she said, urging students to study with dedication and discipline, use their bicycles responsibly, follow traffic rules and prioritise road safety.

Education Minister Ashish Sood said the Vidya Vahini scheme holds particular significance because Delhi is led by a woman Chief Minister who is ensuring that the education, safety and empowerment of girls remain among the government’s highest priorities.

The distribution marks the first phase of a programme intended to expand access to education for girls in government schools by addressing everyday mobility challenges.

The scheme provides timely and transparent income support to eligible farmer families through the Direct Benefit Transfer system, enabling them to increase agricultural investment and strengthen their livelihoods.

Launched in February 2019, PM-KISAN delivers financial assistance of Rs 6,000 per year to eligible landholding farmer families, transferred directly into their bank accounts in three equal instalments. Through Aadhaar authentication, digital verification and a robust Direct Benefit Transfer mechanism, the scheme has established a framework of transparency, efficiency and accountability.

More than Rs 4.47 lakh crore has been transferred directly into farmers’ bank accounts across 23 instalments. Under the 23rd instalment alone, more than 9.49 crore farmers received over Rs 18,984 crore. During the Covid-19 pandemic, more than Rs 1.71 lakh crore was disbursed to provide financial assistance. Women farmers have received more than Rs 1.06 lakh crore under the scheme, with nearly one in four beneficiaries being a woman farmer.

The assistance has enabled farmers to make timely investments in seeds, fertilisers, irrigation, agricultural machinery and other requirements. This has enhanced productive capacity, reduced dependence on informal credit and strengthened the financial stability of rural households.

An evaluation by the Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office of NITI Aayog found that more than 92 per cent of beneficiaries reported using the assistance for agricultural activities and investment. Approximately 85 per cent confirmed an improvement in agricultural income and a reduction in reliance on informal credit.

Between 2020–21 and 2025–26, foodgrain production recorded significant growth. The area under cultivation increased by approximately 9.65 per cent, productivity by about 10.53 per cent and total foodgrain production by roughly 21.18 per cent, reflecting the broader support available to farmers and the expanding capacity of the agriculture sector.

By continuing Aadhaar-based authentication, digital beneficiary verification and the Direct Benefit Transfer system, the scheme ensures that financial assistance reaches farmers directly. The extension is expected to further enhance farmers’ capacity to invest in agriculture, improve productivity, help mitigate agricultural risks and strengthen the rural economy.

Posting the image on his social media account, Khatter wrote: “Some reunions feel like no time has passed! @janhvikapoor.” The picture shows the two actors dressed in traditional attire—Khatter in an ivory sherwani with a matching turban and Kapoor in a heavily embroidered maroon lehenga with statement jewellery. The image revived memories of their successful on-screen pairing in Dhadak, released in 2018. Directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Dharma Productions, Zee Studios and Cloud 9 Pictures, the romantic drama was the official Hindi remake of Nagraj Manjule’s Marathi film Sairat (2016). It marked Kapoor’s debut as a lead actress and Khatter’s first outing as a solo lead.

Dhadak released on July 20, 2018, a few months after the death of Kapoor’s mother, Sridevi, in February that year. The chemistry between the two young actors was widely noted and established them as one of the more talked-about fresh pairings of that year.

Motherhood has coincided with her rise as a top-level athlete. Before Rudra was born in 2022 her personal best stood at 48.08 metres. After an 11-month break she returned to competition in 2024 and improved the mark to 57.19 metres, later reaching 59.73 metres at the Indian Championships in Bhubaneswar earlier this year.

She is coached by her husband, Ravinder Kaliramna, himself one of India’s leading discus throwers and a former gold medallist at the national under-18 and under-20 championships. Alongside her sporting commitments she is pursuing a PhD in Physical Education at Chaudhary Bansi Lal University in Bhiwani.

Her career had earlier suffered a major interruption when a serious knee injury kept her out of competition for more than three years. Through extensive rehabilitation and sustained determination she returned successfully and re-established herself among the country’s leading discus throwers.

She won gold at the 2025 National Games and later claimed the national title. Her resurgence continued with gold at the 2026 South Asian Athletics Championships and a series of strong performances on the national circuit. In 2026 she recorded a personal best of 59.73 metres, emerging as one of India’s top performers in the event and securing qualification for the Asian Games as well as selection for the Commonwealth Games squad.

Kaliramna’s bronze in Glasgow therefore represents both a competitive breakthrough and the culmination of a recovery that has spanned injury, motherhood and academic pursuits while she continued to raise her performance standards.

The programme, scheduled to begin after 1:30 p.m., is intended to strengthen self-help groups, advance women’s economic empowerment and support rural livelihoods across the state. During the event the Chief Minister will also interact with farmers engaged in natural farming and progressive cultivators, discussing their experiences and the government’s efforts to promote natural and organic practices.

In addition, Yadav will lay the foundation stone for 29 development projects valued at Rs 174.64 crore and inaugurate 28 completed projects worth Rs 109.17 crore in Jhabua district.

An official statement described the loan distribution as “an important step towards strengthening self-help groups by distributing loans worth Rs 300 crore. It will give a new boost to women’s economic self-reliance, rural livelihood and self-employment.”

As part of the programme, 215 self-help groups in Jhabua district will receive loans amounting to Rs 10.08 crore under the Madhya Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission. Beneficiaries of several other government schemes will also receive assistance, including the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Kamdhenu Scheme for modern dairy units, the Chief Minister Udyam Kranti Yojana, the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Self-Employment Scheme, the Tantya Mama Economic Welfare Scheme and the Prime Minister Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme.

The Chief Minister will further felicitate meritorious students of Classes 10 and 12, distribute helmets to farmers through the Agriculture Department and extend benefits under the Ladli Laxmi Yojana to eligible recipients.

An “Aajeevikano Mela” will be organised at the venue. The exhibition will feature stalls set up by government departments and self-help groups displaying local products, tribal handicrafts, natural and organic farming practices, medicinal plants and information on various government schemes. The district administration has completed all preparations for the programme, the statement said.

The event forms part of the state government’s broader effort to expand access to credit for women’s groups and to integrate livelihood support with infrastructure development and agricultural initiatives in tribal-dominated districts such as Jhabua.

In a video shared on social media, Karishma walked through the old residence with her parents. Her mother pointed out rooms that once held cherished family memories and recalled the early days of her marriage spent in the same house. “When we got married, we used to sleep on the upper floor of the house. What we had to leave behind in one night… today, years later, we are walking through the streets of Srinagar and reaching our house,” she said.

Karishma’s mother continued to identify spaces that once belonged to different members of the family. “This was our house… This was my bedroom. This was my room. This was dad’s room.” The once sprawling home has since been divided into smaller rented units. “This house is now divided into rooms. Each room is someone’s home on rent,” Karishma noted, adding that the staircase lacked electricity and most rooms remained locked.

As they moved through the house, her mother revisited further fragments of the past. “Dad used to study here… This was your room… We used to sit here… My sister had once fallen from these stairs. Every room is a childhood memory.”

In the accompanying caption, Karishma wrote: “Bahut gayi thodi rahi. 9 seedhiyan thi kabhi, ab sirf 3 reh gayi hain. Zameen badal gayi, ghar badal gaya — par jo yaadein reh gayi thi, woh aaj bhi wahin thi. Saalon baad apna ghar dobara dekhna… alag hi feeling hai. It would have been so much better if it was maintained but ab woh humara toh raha nahi. Every time my parents visit, it’s a mixed feeling – most are memories of childhood and some haunting. The post resonated widely. Producer and activist Ashok Pandit, himself from Kashmir, responded: “I am speechless & numb. This is a story of each & every Kashmiri Pandit. Thank you Karishma for reliving our roots.”

Kunal Kemmu and his sister have spoken on earlier occasions about their Kashmiri roots and the displacement of Kashmiri Pandits in the early 1990s. The actor was born in Srinagar before the family migrated from the Valley.

The family’s return to the house, now fragmented and altered, brought both the warmth of childhood recollection and the lingering weight of sudden departure. Karishma’s documentation of the visit captures a personal story that mirrors the larger experience of many Kashmiri Pandit families who left their homes under duress more than three decades ago.

Rahane announced his decision to retire from all formats on Thursday, ending a career that spanned more than a decade. He is best remembered for leading India to a historic Border-Gavaskar Trophy series victory in Australia in 2020-21.

Kohli, who shared many significant moments with Rahane in the Indian dressing room, posted a warm message on social media: “Jinks, congratulations on a great career, buddy. Rahane made his India debut on the 2011 tour of England and went on to play 85 Tests, 90 One-Day Internationals and 20 T20 Internationals. In Test cricket he scored 5,077 runs across 144 innings, including 12 centuries and 26 half-centuries. He also accumulated 2,962 runs in ODIs. His final appearance for India came during the 2023 away Test series against the West Indies.

After India were dismissed for 36 in Adelaide and Kohli returned home for the birth of his child, Rahane assumed leadership of a depleted side. The assurance comes as Delhi Police prepares to proceed against individuals who had prior criminal records before joining the demonstrations. A circular issued by Principal Secretary (Home) Santosh D. Vaidya stated that 13 cases had been registered in connection with the protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination.

Offering clear relief to bona fide students, Vaidya said: “No adverse legal action will be taken by any of the police authorities within the National Capital Territory of Delhi against those persons who have been involved in these protests. The protection, however, shall not extend to persons having criminal antecedents, as mandated in the order of the Supreme Court.”

The decision to drop proceedings against protesters without criminal backgrounds was taken with the consent of Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu, the highest authority on law and order and Delhi Police in the capital.

According to an official statement, the Government of NCT of Delhi reached the conclusion after careful consideration of all circumstances and in light of the Supreme Court’s order dated July 28 in the case of Shailendra Mani Tripathi versus Union of India. “The Government of NCT of Delhi does not propose to take any further adverse action against the individuals involved in the protests, and the matter shall be treated as closed without any future proceedings on this account,” the statement said.

The protests, which lasted 36 days and included a confrontation with police on July 20 in the high-security zone, were withdrawn on Saturday. Allegations of excessive force by police during that episode had earlier triggered an uproar in Parliament, with the Opposition raising the issue during debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.

By distinguishing between genuine student participants and those with existing criminal records, the Delhi government has sought to close the chapter for the majority of protesters while allowing police action to continue where antecedents warrant it. The move follows the Supreme Court’s directions and aims to prevent prolonged legal uncertainty for students who joined the agitation without prior criminal involvement.

In an Instagram post accompanied by video footage, the veteran performer captured the temple’s misty setting, the sound of bells, fluttering prayer flags and the measured footsteps of visitors. She wrote: “Between the mist, the bells, the fluttering prayer flags, and the quiet footsteps of strangers, there was a strange sense of peace. The Mahakal Temple isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a reminder that faith can exist together. Here, Hindu and Buddhist prayers have echoed side by side for generations, on the very hill that gave Darjeeling its name.”

Bhattacharya further reflected on the generations of devotees who have climbed the temple’s ancient steps. “I kept wondering how many people must have climbed these ancient steps carrying hope, gratitude, heartbreak, or simply a quiet conversation with God. I left with a lighter heart.”

In the accompanying video she is heard saying, “Shooting is complete and we are off and we choose to go to the Mahakaal temple.” The footage offers glimpses of the temple’s serene surroundings and the contemplative atmosphere that marked her visit.

The Mahakal Temple, situated on Observatory Hill, has long been regarded as a site where Hindu and Buddhist traditions coexist. Bhattacharya’s observations align with the temple’s established reputation as a shared sacred space, a point she emphasised by noting that prayers from both communities have been offered there for generations.

Bhattacharya began her screen career with supporting roles in films such as Devdas and Lajja. She gained wider recognition in 2000 for her portrayal of the antagonist Payal Mehra in the long-running television series Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Subsequent television appearances included Banoo Main Teri Dulhan, Kasamh Se (as Jigyasa), Jhansi Ki Rani (as Sakku Bai) and Badho Bahu. She also featured in a cameo in the film Fiza and later played Sub-Inspector Vimla Bharadwaj in the crime series Delhi Crime alongside Shefali Shah and Rasika Dugal.

Her decision to share the temple visit publicly comes at a moment when many public figures continue to document personal spiritual experiences. In an exclusive conversation with IANS, the Yaariyan actor said Roshan’s depiction of mathematician Anand Kumar stood out for its rawness and authenticity. “I think I understand that when you leave glamour and come to a rawness, it is not challenging but you just have to make people believe that it is you. Because in this way, they never believe you to see you and they don’t even want you to come in this de-glam avatar role,” Kohli observed.

He added that the performance had a wide impact. “The performance that Hrithik Roshan delivered in Super 30 has definitely impacted so many people, including me, who was moved by that performance. That too was a story of students and their children’s studies.”

Kohli drew a thematic parallel with his upcoming film Aryabhatt Ka Zero, while carefully distinguishing the two projects. “Our story in Aryabhatt Ka Zero is around a family. The topic of this film is also education, the struggle for education, the challenges, and today’s youth who feel that he should also get that right. He should get the best education in his life. Even if he does not have the means for it at that time, he has a hope to achieve it with his merit and confidence. I am happy that you connected it in that way. But if you watch the movie, you will find that these two are not identical at all.”

Directed by Kamal Chandra, Aryabhatt Ka Zero explores the origin and significance of the concept of zero (Shunya), the place-value system, and the contributions of the ancient Indian mathematician and astronomer Aryabhata. The film features Sonal Sehgal, Darshana Banik, Naresh Vohra, Alka Amin and Neeraj Sood in key roles, with Shilpa Shinde making a special appearance. It is scheduled for theatrical release on August 7.

He was also part of India’s squads for the 2015 ODI World Cup and the 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cups.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said he had the privilege of worshipping at the shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva in Kashi. “On the auspicious occasion of the month of Shravan, I had the supreme privilege today of visiting and worshipping Shri Kashi Vishwanath in Kashi, the sacred city of Mahadev, the Lord of Lords,” he wrote.

He added a prayer for the wider public: “My prayer is that, by the boundless grace of Lord Bholenath, the entire creation may flourish, the nation may steadily advance on the path of prosperity, and the lives of all people may be filled with happiness, peace, abundance, and good health. Har-Har Mahadev.”

The month of Sawan began on Thursday with large numbers of devotees visiting Shiva temples across several states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Uttarakhand. Preparations for the annual Kanwar Yatra also gained pace, with devotees beginning journeys carrying Ganga water to offer at Shiva temples.

Sawan, also known as Shravan Maas, is regarded as one of the most sacred periods in the Hindu calendar and is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. Devotees traditionally observe fasts, perform special pujas and make offerings of water, milk and other items to Shiva Lingams. The month is associated with devotion, self-discipline and reflection.

Key observances during the period include Shravan Shivratri, the Kanwar Yatra and Hariyali Amavasya. Shravan Shivratri, held on the Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha, is considered the most significant occasion of the month.

This year Sawan commenced on 30 July and will conclude on 28 August. Temple authorities and local administrations in major pilgrimage centres are preparing for elevated footfall in the weeks ahead, particularly on Mondays and major festival days within the month.

The disaster of 30 July 2024 officially claimed 330 lives, including 32 people who were initially listed as missing and later declared dead. Torrents of mud, rock and water erased entire neighbourhoods, left hundreds without homes and permanently altered the local landscape.

On the anniversary, residents assembled at the disaster site and at the newly constructed rehabilitation township. They offered prayers, lit candles and recalled those who did not survive. For many families the loss remains immediate; some never recovered the bodies of relatives. The sound of heavy rain or the appearance of dark clouds continues to trigger anxiety among those who lived through the night of the landslide.

At the same time, signs of renewed daily life are visible in the government-built township. Children play in streets that did not exist two years ago. Among the new residents is a child named Rithu, born after her mother, Sindhu, escaped the landslide while pregnant. The family’s present home is cited by neighbours as one example of a life restarted after displacement. Similar accounts of gradual rebuilding are reported across the settlement.

Wayanad Member of Parliament Priyanka Gandhi Vadra marked the occasion with a social-media message. “Two years since the tragedy that devastated the people of Chooralmala and Mundakkai, we pay homage to the bravery and resilience of the people of Wayanad,” she wrote. She added a pledge of continued support: “We renew our pledge to stand by them in the courageous fight to rebuild their lives and provide them with comfort as they carry deep wounds of loss in their hearts.”

The anniversary combined public mourning with recognition of the practical efforts under way to rehouse and support those displaced. While the original villages remain buried, the rehabilitation township and the quiet resumption of family life represent the community’s ongoing attempt to move forward from the scale of loss recorded in July 2024.

The national capital is likely to receive light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms at intervals. Skies are expected to remain overcast for much of the day, and strong winds may accompany storm activity in several localities. Humidity is projected to stay high despite the showers.

Maximum temperatures in Delhi are forecast to range between 33 and 34 degrees Celsius, with the minimum around 27 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists said the intermittent rain should moderate daytime heat but is unlikely to eliminate the discomfort caused by moisture-laden air.

Beyond the capital region, the IMD has predicted widespread rainfall across large parts of northern and eastern India. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are all likely to receive significant rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.

A yellow alert has been issued for multiple regions, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and wind speeds of 40–60 kmph. Residents have been urged to remain alert and follow local safety advisories.

The continued activity is attributed to an active monsoon and a steady inflow of moisture from the Bay of Bengal. These systems are expected to sustain widespread rain over northern and eastern India until at least 1 August.

In Uttar Pradesh, several eastern, central and western districts may record heavy to very heavy rainfall. Cities including Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Noida are likely to see widespread showers, with isolated locations potentially receiving very heavy precipitation in the next 24 hours.

The meteorological department said it is monitoring the evolving pattern closely and has advised farmers, travellers and two-wheeler riders to exercise caution during periods of heavy rain, lightning and strong winds.

The system was formally activated under directions issued by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav. It allows eligible complaints lodged through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or the national helpline 1930 to be converted automatically into e-zero FIRs and transmitted electronically via the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) to the relevant Cyber Crime Police Station in the district or Commissionerate concerned.

Complaints involving fraud of Rs 1 crore or more will be routed to the State Cyber Crime Police Station in Mohali for registration and investigation.

DGP Yadav said the mechanism is intended to remove delays in FIR registration and to enable immediate steps to freeze bank accounts, digital wallets and other payment instruments linked to the fraud, preserve electronic evidence, coordinate with financial intermediaries and begin investigation promptly so that recovery prospects are maximised.

“The first few hours after a cyber financial fraud are the most critical for tracing and freezing funds. By enabling automatic registration, the e-zero FIR system empowers investigating officers to take urgent legal and technical measures without procedural delays,” he stated.

Under the new arrangement, complainants will receive immediate confirmation of the e-zero FIR registration, along with details of the Cyber Crime Police Station handling the case, the name of the investigating officer and the steps required to complete statutory formalities under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.

The State Cyber Crime Division will monitor implementation across Punjab to ensure timely registration, transfer, investigation and supervisory oversight of cases falling under the scheme.

Officials present the e-zero FIR process as a response to the time-sensitive nature of cyber financial crime, where rapid freezing of funds and preservation of digital trails are essential to recovery. By linking national reporting channels directly to local cyber crime units through CCTNS, the system seeks to compress the interval between complaint and formal investigative action.

The state government released water to Tamil Nadu even before the CWRC issued its directions, and now Karnataka may have to release more water because of the committee's decision," he said.

He further contended that farmers in the Cauvery command area could face difficulties even in accessing drinking water and questioned why the government had not placed the actual ground situation before the CWRC.

Criticising CM Shivakumar, Vijayendra alleged that he had advised farmers in the Cauvery basin against taking up sowing activities of water-intensive crops. He accused the government of betraying the state's farmers and claimed that it was acting to keep its ally in Tamil Nadu politically satisfied.

"The Chief Minister must respond to the plight of Karnataka's farmers. If there is sufficient water available for the state, a decision on releasing water to Tamil Nadu can be taken thereafter," he added.

On the political front, Vijayendra referred to senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah's reported statement about stepping away from electoral politics and claimed that the development would adversely affect the party's prospects in the 2028 Assembly elections.

"With Siddaramaiah deciding to withdraw from electoral politics, the Congress party's tally will come down to 50-60 seats in the 2028 elections," Vijayendra asserted.

Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik told the Rajya Sabha that a total of 39,72,447 rooftop solar (RTS) systems have been commissioned under the scheme. These installations have covered 48,02,717 households, including those in rural areas.

During the financial year 2025–26 alone, 18.71 lakh systems were installed, adding 6.7 GW of solar capacity and extending benefits to 22.71 lakh households.

Distribution companies have reported that more than 18.93 lakh beneficiaries received zero electricity bills for at least one billing cycle after installing systems under the scheme. Officials attribute the reduction in household electricity expenditure to the generation of power from the rooftop plants.

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is designed as a demand-driven programme. Any residential consumer with a grid-connected electricity connection from the local distribution company can apply for benefits through the scheme’s National Portal. The initiative covers both urban and rural households.

While the scheme also encourages rooftop solar installations on government and commercial buildings, including educational and health institutions, central financial assistance is not extended to these categories. The ministry has stated that such installations remain financially viable without subsidy support.

His debut book, Gen-Z: An Incomplete Book (Gen-Z: Ek Adhuri Si Kitaab), grew out of years of simply being around the generation everyone seems to have an opinion about. "I have many Gen Z youngsters in my family and I interact with this generation regularly. The more I observed them, the more I realised something: everyone is talking about Gen Z, but very few are actually listening to them,” he said.

That gap between talking about and listening to, he said, is where the book was born. He added, "We judge their screen time, lifestyle and choices, but rarely ask what's happening behind that screen. Their pressure, loneliness, confusion, dreams and silent struggles inspired me to write this book."

The title itself carries the book's central idea. "Because Gen Z itself is an incomplete story," Bharat said, adding, "They are still discovering who they are, what they want, and where they belong. Their pages are still being written. And maybe we are judging their story too early."

Asked about what sets the book apart, he was clear that it isn't meant to instruct. "This book doesn't try to teach Gen Z how to live. It tries to feel them. It's written for Gen Z, but equally for parents, teachers, mentors and everyone who wants to understand them better,” he said. 

Bharat is also upfront about where his understanding of the generation comes from. He doesn't have Gen Z children of his own, and said, “But I have many Gen Z youngsters in my family and around me. My understanding comes from spending time with them, observing them and, most importantly, listening to them without judging."

In the end, he said, the book has one simple hope riding on it. "I just want one thing from this book. When a Gen Z reads it, I want them to feel, 'Finally, someone is trying to understand us.' And when a parent or an older generation reads it, I hope they feel, 'Maybe, before judging them, we should listen to them’,” he said.

"If this book can start that one conversation between two generations, for me, its purpose is fulfilled," Bharat ended.

According to a statement issued by Skytech-AIC, the six narrowbody aircraft, manufactured between 2003 and 2006, are available for immediate sale. The aircraft will be offered without their CFM56-5 engines.

While the company confirmed that the aircraft are being actively marketed, it did not disclose the expected timeline for the sale, the value of the transaction, or the identities of any prospective buyers.

This is the second major assignment Skytech-AIC has undertaken for Air India. The firm had previously managed the sale of the airline's Boeing 747-400 fleet, a process that was completed in 2025.

Commenting on the development, Skytech-AIC Managing Director Julian Balaam said the company was pleased to have once again been selected by India's flag carrier. He noted that the latest mandate follows the successful completion of the Boeing 747-400 fleet sale last year.

"We are delighted to have again been selected by India's flag-carrier, Air India, for this important assignment which follows the successful conclusion of the sale of the airline's 747-400 fleet which completed in 2025," Balaam stated.

The sale of the Airbus A319 aircraft is part of Air India's broader fleet transformation programme under the Tata Group. The airline has been retiring older aircraft and inducting new-generation jets as it pursues a long-term strategy to modernise its operations and improve efficiency.

Air India's Airbus A319 fleet has primarily served domestic and short-haul international routes. These aircraft are expected to be phased out gradually as the airline continues to induct newer Airbus A320neo-family aircraft into its fleet over the coming years.

The Meta‑owned messaging platform has also been granted an additional three days to respond to the government notice seeking clarification on the feature. The original deadline for WhatsApp’s reply had lapsed on Friday.

WhatsApp had proposed a username option which would allow users to communicate on WhatsApp without sharing their phone numbers.

The Central government issued a formal notice last week expressing concerns that such a move could heighten risks of online fraud, phishing and impersonation. The government asked WhatsApp to keep the feature on hold until discussions address its security and consumer‑protection concerns, and a Meta delegation met officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Friday to discuss the matter.

Earlier this week, WhatsApp reiterated that several safeguards have been built into the username feature to prevent impersonation, scams and unwanted contact as it prepares for a wider rollout later this year.

The messaging platform addressed a series of frequently asked questions on microblogging platform X after concerns were raised over the feature, including by the government, which has asked the company to defer its rollout in the country pending consultations.

The company said users will not be required to create a username and that existing Instagram and Facebook usernames, along with those of public figures, celebrities, government entities and Meta Verified accounts, have been reserved so they can only be claimed by their legitimate owners.

The country’s production of finished steel during the first quarter of the current financial year (April-June) rose by 5.9 per cent to 41 million tonnes from 38.7 million tonnes in the same quarter of the previous year.

Consumption of finished steel shot up by a robust 7.2 per cent to 14.2 million tonnes during June compared with 13.2 million tonnes in the same month last year, as demand from big-ticket infrastructure projects taken up by the government in the highways, railways and ports sectors fuelled demand.

The consumption of finished steel during the April-June quarter of the current financial year clocked an 8.3 per cent growth to 41.6 million tonnes from 38.4 million tonnes in the same quarter last year, reflecting the steady growth that is being maintained in the development of large-scale infrastructure projects in the country.

India’s steel exports also surged by 38.1 per cent during June to 6,16, 200 tonnes compared with the corresponding figure of 4,46,200 tonnes in the same month last year.

India’s production of crude steel was recorded at 14.1 million tonnes in June this year compared with 13.5 million tonnes in the same month of the previous year. In value terms, the exports during June jumped by 43.5 per cent to Rs 4,674 crore from Rs 3,256.9 crore in the same month last year.

India's total crude steelmaking capacity reached 221.9 million tonnes per annum as of June 2026, keeping the industry on track to achieve the National Steel Policy target of 300 million tonnes per annum by 2030, according to an official statement.

The platform -- developed by the Digital India Corporation under the Ministry of Textiles and launched in 2023 -- is helping artisans and weavers connect directly with buyers, expanding market access while supporting livelihoods and preserving the country's rich handloom and handicraft heritage, it added.

It enables artisans and weavers to sell handmade products online while reducing dependence on intermediaries and improving income opportunities, it added.

Indiahandmade is part of efforts to integrate traditional craft communities into the digital economy and strengthen the visibility of handmade products across the country and beyond, according to the government.

"India has an estimated 64.66 lakh handloom and handicraft artisans," the document said.

In addition, women account for over 70 per cent of handloom weavers and 64 per cent of the overall artisan workforce, highlighting the sector's role in generating rural employment and promoting women's economic empowerment, according to the fact sheet.

The platform offers a wide range of handmade products, including apparel, home décor, furnishings, paintings, furniture, jewellery, bags, footwear, religious items, stationery and musical instruments.

It also showcases Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged products and One District One Product (ODOP) items, giving region-specific crafts greater visibility and helping preserve traditional skills.

The portal has been designed to provide a trusted digital marketplace with secure payments, purchase protection, free shipping and buyer support, while offering artisans a simple onboarding process.

To make digital commerce more inclusive, sellers without Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration can also join the platform using an Enrolment ID, provided they sell products within their respective states, according to the government.

While the platform not only improves market access but also contributes to the financial and social empowerment of artisans by enabling them to participate directly in online commerce.

Several artisan enterprises, including Santarms, Dastkar Craft and Villages Craft are already using the platform to market handmade products ranging from wooden décor, terracotta items and handloom sarees to cane, bamboo and cotton products.

Looking ahead, the government aims to onboard more than 60 lakh artisans onto the platform as part of its vision to strengthen self-reliance under Atmanirbhar Bharat while ensuring India's traditional crafts continue to thrive in the digital economy.

The city of Kolkata and south Bengal districts have been receiving moderate to heavy rain since Sunday afternoon. The rain will continue as a depression has formed in the Bay of Bengal which is gradually moving towards the coast.

"Due to the influence of the low pressure area which has turned into a depression, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Kolkata and south Bengal. There will be very heavy rain in some places. Continuous rain has started in Kolkata and its suburbs since Sunday night. Sometimes the rain intensity increases, sometimes it decreases. However, the rain will continue till Wednesday," said an official at RMC.

Due to the influence of continuous rain, some roads in the city have also become waterlogged. Scattered rain will continue throughout the day in Kolkata on Monday and next two days.

The Met office said that the low pressure area in the northwest Bay of Bengal has intensified and turned into a depression on Sunday. At that time, its location was 50 km south-southeast of Balasore in Odisha, 60 km south-southwest of Digha in West Bengal.

It will gradually move further west-northwest. By Monday, it is going to enter the land through the intermediate part of Chandbali and Digha in Odisha near Balasore. After that, the low pressure will move further north. In the next 24 hours, that is, by Tuesday, the low pressure may cross the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border.

"Monsoon is active in the state. The monsoon axis extends from southwest Rajasthan to Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and extends to the Bay of Bengal. As a result, there is a possibility of very heavy rainfall in a large part of south Bengal. It will continue till Wednesday. Rain may increase in north Bengal from Monday onwards," said the official.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is likely in several southern districts including Kolkata on Monday. The list includes Howrah, South 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Purulia and Bankura.

Apart from this, more or less rain will continue in the southern districts throughout the week.

The Met office has issued an 'Orange Alert' for very heavy rain in East Midnapore, West Midnapore and Jhargram districts. Heavy rainfall will resume in north Bengal from Tuesday onwards. Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar are likely to experience very heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds on Wednesday and Thursday. Heavy rainfall is also likely in North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur districts.

The selections cover AIIMS New Delhi and the newly established AIIMS-Central Armed Police Forces Institute of Medical Sciences (CAPFIMS) campus at Maidan Garhi. The recruitment saw over 3,200 applicants competing for 265 posts at AIIMS New Delhi and 199 posts at the AIIMS-CAPFIMS campus.

The entire selection process, which spanned six months, was conducted with advanced digital safeguards to ensure the highest levels of transparency and integrity.

In a pioneering move, AIIMS utilised block-chain digital technology for the recruitment. Candidates’ marks were digitally locked using one-time passwords (OTPs), and a specially designed software generated the final merit list through pre-defined algorithms. Human intervention was limited only to resolving ties, making the process largely automated and tamper-proof. This technological approach not only maintained confidentiality but also enabled the swift declaration of results.

This recruitment drive is being hailed as one of the largest faculty hiring exercises undertaken by AIIMS in recent years. The induction of a large number of highly qualified faculty members is expected to significantly strengthen medical education, patient care services, and cutting-edge research activities at both institutions.

The addition of new faculty will help reduce the existing gaps in teaching and clinical departments, improve the teacher-student ratio, and expand specialised healthcare services. It will also boost AIIMS’ capacity to conduct advanced medical research and training programmes, further cementing its position as a premier medical institute in the country.

The successful implementation of block-chain technology in such a large-scale public recruitment process is likely to serve as a model for future selections in other central institutions.

In an advisory issued by the Integrated Control Room for Emergency Response (ICR-ER) at 1 a.m. on Monday, the MHA said the depression, which had moved northwestwards at about 13 kmph over the previous six hours, was centred over north interior Odisha and adjoining south Jharkhand at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.

It was located near latitude 22.1 degrees N and longitude 86.0 degrees E, around 80 km west-northwest of Baripada, 70 km northeast of Keonjhargarh, 80 km south-southwest of Jamshedpur and 180 km east-southeast of Rourkela.

The system is expected to continue moving nearly west-northwestwards across north Odisha, adjoining south Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours.

For Gujarat, the advisory forecasts light to moderate rainfall at most places, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected at a few places and isolated extremely heavy rainfall on July 6 and 7.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places on July 8, followed by heavy rainfall at isolated places on July 9.

Saurashtra and Kutch are also expected to receive light to moderate rainfall at most places, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on July 6 and 7 and heavy rainfall on July 8 and 9.

The advisory is in line with the latest warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has placed the Gujarat region under an extremely heavy rainfall warning for July 6 and 7, while Saurashtra and Kutch remain under very heavy rainfall warnings during the same period.

IMD has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and squally winds over parts of Gujarat on Monday.

The IMD's Ahmedabad Meteorological Centre has forecast widespread rain and thundershowers across much of the state, with rainfall expected at many places in North Gujarat and Saurashtra and at most places in South Gujarat over the next two days.

Apart from Gujarat, the MHA advisory warns of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan and Madhya Maharashtra, while heavy rainfall is also expected over Jharkhand, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Marathwada, Vidarbha and parts of Uttar Pradesh.

The advisory further states that squally winds reaching 35-45 kmph, gusting to 55 kmph, are likely over north interior Odisha, adjoining south Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh until the morning of July 7.

Over the northwest Bay of Bengal and along the Odisha, West Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh coasts, winds of up to 55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph, are expected before gradually weakening.

Sea conditions are forecast to remain rough over the northwest Bay of Bengal and along the Odisha, West Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh coasts until July 7, while conditions over the central and northeast Bay of Bengal are expected to improve after Monday morning.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the northwest Bay of Bengal and along the Odisha, West Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh coasts until July 7.

They have also been warned against venturing into the central and northeast Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours.

The MHA said the expected impacts include uprooting of small trees, damage to plantations and standing crops, minor damage to vulnerable structures and kutcha houses, waterlogging in low-lying areas, localised flooding, landslides, disruption to road and rail transport, reduced visibility and possible disruption to helicopter services.

The advisory said: "People are advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places accordingly. Take safe shelters; do not take shelter under trees, as there could be lightning."

The MHA has asked all concerned state governments to maintain close monitoring of the situation, ensure district authorities remain alert and take all necessary precautionary measures.

States have also been requested to keep the ministry informed of any significant developments through the Integrated Control Room for Emergency Response.

The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, was born on July 6, 1935, into a farming family in the small village of Taktser in the Amdo region of northeastern Tibet. Born as Lhamo Dhondup, he was identified at the age of two as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso.

The Dalai Lamas are regarded in Tibetan Buddhism as incarnations of Avalokiteshvara, also known as Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and the spiritual protector of Tibet. Bodhisattvas are believed to postpone their own final enlightenment to help all sentient beings attain liberation.

He entered monastic life at the age of six and followed the traditional Nalanda system of education. His studies covered five major disciplines: Buddhist philosophy, logic, Sanskrit grammar, medicine, and fine art, along with five minor subjects, including poetry, drama, astrology, composition, and linguistics. Buddhist philosophy formed the core of his education, encompassing teachings on the perfection of wisdom, the Middle Way philosophy, monastic discipline, metaphysics, and logic.

In 1959, at the age of 23, he appeared for his final monastic examination at the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa during the annual Monlam Chenmo, or Great Prayer Festival. He successfully earned the prestigious Geshe Lharampa degree, the highest academic qualification in Tibetan Buddhist philosophy.

Following China's military entry into Tibet in 1950, the Dalai Lama assumed full political authority. In 1954, he travelled to Beijing, where he held discussions with Chinese leaders, including Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, and Zhou Enlai. After the Tibetan uprising in Lhasa was crushed by Chinese forces in 1959, he fled Tibet and sought refuge in India. Since then, he has lived in Dharamsala, where the Tibetan government-in-exile is based.

From exile, the Central Tibetan Administration urged the United Nations to address the Tibet issue. The UN General Assembly subsequently adopted resolutions on Tibet in 1959, 1961, and 1965.

On March 14, 2011, the Dalai Lama formally requested the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile to relieve him of his political responsibilities. He announced the end of the centuries-old tradition under which Dalai Lamas exercised both spiritual and temporal authority, stating that his role would henceforth be limited to spiritual leadership. Political responsibilities were transferred entirely to Tibet's democratically elected leadership, while the Gaden Phodrang, the Dalai Lama's official institution, would continue solely as a religious office.

The facility, described as South Asia's largest private-sector missile ecosystem, will bring the entire value chain -- from raw materials to mission-ready missile systems -- under one roof.

In his address at the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Adani Enterprises Director Jeet Adani said the project marks a historic milestone for India's private defence manufacturing sector and will significantly enhance the country's self-reliance in strategic defence capabilities.

"We have gathered here today for a landmark occasion-laying the foundation of South Asia's largest private-sector missile ecosystem. This facility will bring raw materials and mission-ready missiles under one roof, a historic first outside the public sector," he said.

According to Jeet Adani, the Shivpuri complex will manufacture medium- to long-range missile systems while also establishing facilities for composite propellant production and TNT and explosive-grade materials, reducing India's dependence on defence imports.

He said the project will generate around 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities and support the growth of more than 50 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through a specialised defence supply chain.

Highlighting the company's broader investments in Madhya Pradesh, Jeet Adani said the defence project is part of the Adani Group's Rs 1.10 lakh crore investment commitment announced at the Global Investors Summit in Bhopal. The investments span hydro pumped storage, cement, mining, smart meters and thermal energy and are expected to create 1.2 lakh jobs in the state by 2030.

He added that the group has already invested over Rs 4,000 crore in its Ametha and Kymor plants in Katni district. Adani Power currently supplies 1,200 MW of electricity to Madhya Pradesh, with another 5,600 MW under development. The company has also commissioned wind energy projects in Lahori, Dhar, Ratlam and Ujjain, while preparations are underway to establish a cement plant in Ujjain.

Jeet Adani also noted that the group recently laid the foundation stone for its Rs 1,060 crore cement unit in Guna, describing it as the largest investment in the district's history.

Ishan Kishan scored 49 and, along with skipper Shreyas Iyer (37) and Abhishek Sharma (43), helped India post a challenging 190/7 upon electing to bat first at Old Trafford on Saturday. However, England rode on an unbeaten 76 from Jacob Bethell to overhaul the target and reach 191/6 in 19 overs, recovering from a precarious 1/2 and 51/3 for a four-wicket win. Asked whether India needed an off-spinner to capitalise on the situation in the middle and lower-order, Ishan Kishan said the bowlers picked for the match were "quality bowlers," and all this talk was conjecture.

"No, I mean, we played for a perfect team, you know. It's just that when you don't win, there are a lot of thoughts coming in, a lot of ifs and buts are coming in. But at the same time, I feel all of them were very good bowlers who have done well in the past, who have made their team win in different situations. Even bowling on very flat tracks and still getting wickets. So, I don't think we could have done anything different looking at the team side," said Ishan Kishan in the post-match press conference.

Kishan, however, admitted that the team has to consider how it can improve its performance, taking the conditions into account.

"Yeah, like I said, we need to just understand what conditions are and how we can improve, what we can do better. You know, thoughts will keep coming in. But at the end of the day, we just need to understand the situation, like we are playing outside India, and what the pitch requires from us as a batter and as a bowler. Not only one batter or one bowler can, you know, just make the difference. But as a group, I feel we need to just understand more, like where we can get better," he added.

Kishan came in at one down as India went in with 15-year-old opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the second match. The first match was abandoned without a ball being bowled in the second innings after India posted 189/7 in the rain-hit match.

Pointing out that the team has been losing momentum in the backend and falling short by 15-20 runs from what they could have in both times they batted in this series, the Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter said the team has to improve, and said all batters would have to think about where they can score those 20-plus runs.

He said they will have to look at the hosts' batters to understand what they are doing better because they know the conditions better.

"100%, I mean, yes. Obviously, you know, they'll have the best choice of bowling, where to pick up, which bowler to put (under pressure), and which batsman to put (under pressure). They understand the condition better than we do. But at the same time, you know, as I said, I mean, everyone's answer is the same. Like, we are all looking to improve.

"We are all looking to understand what these guys are doing against us. Like, when we play in India, we have more ideas about the wicket. So, here, obviously, every batter needs to understand, as a team, like, where we can, you know, get those extra 20 runs, whether it's by scoring boundaries or, because it's a big ground, you need to take those, whether you have to target the gaps. So, these are a few things I feel we'll talk about as a group, we'll understand, and we'll get better with time," he said.

According to the latest notification from Finance Ministry that set out the rules, a product will qualify as originating in India or the UK if it is wholly obtained in either country, produced entirely from originating materials, or manufactured using non-originating inputs while meeting the product-specific origin requirements prescribed under the agreement.

The rules, issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), establish the framework for determining whether goods qualify for preferential tariff treatment under the agreement and lay down compliance requirements for exporters and importers.

According to the notification, “these rules may be called the Customs Tariff (Determination of Origin of Goods under Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between India and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) Rules, 2026. They shall come into force on the 15th July, 2026”.

The framework allows cumulative treatment of originating materials, enabling inputs originating in one partner country to be treated as originating in the other when used in further production. 

It also specifies that activities such as simple repackaging, relabelling, washing, sorting, polishing, simple assembly and other minor operations will not be sufficient to confer originating status on a product. Customs authorities will have powers to verify origin claims and deny preferential treatment where products fail to meet the prescribed conditions.

The rules also provide flexibility for importers who fail to claim tariff benefits at the time of import.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said recently that the India-UK CETA will further deepen collaboration across trade, investment, and innovation, contributing to shared prosperity for both nations.

The CETA will create new avenues for professionals. In London, Goyal urged Indian companies to deepen engagement with their UK counterparts and translate opportunities under the CETA into sustained business growth.

Addressing the ‘India-UK: Partners in Progress Business Plenary’ in London, Goyal said the landmark trade pact offers significant opportunities to strengthen bilateral trade, investment, technology partnerships, innovation and resilient supply chains.

Under new coach Frederic Soyez, the team will play six matches against Austria, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands as part of its preparations for key upcoming international competitions, including the Junior Asia Cup.

The Adani Group has given a written commitment to build a 2,000-bed modern hospital in New Town. Of these, 1,000 beds will be for the poor and another 1,000 will be used for commercial operation, the chief minister announcement on Saturday while outlining the initiatives undertaken by his government in the state over the past two months.

He was interacting with members of the civil society in his Bhabanipur assembly constituency. The interaction was organised by the Alipore Citizens' Association.

In May, the Adani Group Bihar announced the launch of 'ACE-Adani Centre for Eye Diseases' in collaboration with Akhand Jyoti Hospital and the Adani Foundation, saying the initiative aims to provide accessible and affordable eye treatment to people in need.

The “ATOM-Adani Training Centre for Ophthalmic Medicine” will help prepare a new generation of eye specialists and women healthcare workers.

Indian benchmark indices ended higher for the third straight session on Friday, supported by gains in information technology and pharmaceutical stocks despite mixed global cues.

Currency movement will be another factor for investors to watch. The Indian rupee strengthened by 17 paise to close at 95.18 against the US dollar on Friday, aided by a softer dollar index and firm domestic equity markets.

The Prime Minister stressed the larger goal of self-reliance in high-tech materials and critical minerals to secure the entire value chain.

He expressed strong faith that India’s youth will use “Made in India” chips to power the coming AI and robotics revolution.

Addressing global investors, PM Modi reassured them of policy stability and fast-track execution.

Sooryavanshi, 15, etched his name into the annals of cricketing history by making his highly-anticipated international debut during the second T20I against England at Old Trafford on Saturday. In doing so, Sooryavanshi has shattered long-standing benchmarks of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Shafali Verma, who was previously the youngest cricketer to play T20Is for India in both men’s and women’s circuit.

Tendulkar had famously made his international debut for India in a Test match against Pakistan in Karachi back in November 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days. Meanwhile, Shafali was 15 years and 239 days old when she earned her maiden T20I cap against South Africa in Surat in 2019.

Echoing Vardhan’s sentiments, BCA Secretary Ziaul Arfin highlighted that Sooryavanshi's meteoric rise reflects the steady progression and overhaul of grassroots cricket infrastructure in the state.

"Vaibhav Suryavanshi's international debut for India is not just an individual achievement but the outcome of years of hard work and the steady development of cricket in Bihar. The history he has created today will inspire young cricketers in every district of the state.

The move aims to protect India's creator economy, film industry, broadcasters, OTT platforms, producers, and distributors from the adverse impact of digital piracy.

Earlier, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had blocked Telegram in India till June 22 as a precautionary measure ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-exam.

"Both measures have been taken in the interest of public order, in response to the organised use of the platform by cheating rackets to defraud candidates appearing for the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination scheduled on 21 June 2026," the National Testing Agency (NTA) said last month.

Significantly, the Delhi High Court had upheld the Centre's decision to temporarily suspend Telegram's services across India ahead of the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination, ruling that the government had strictly followed the procedure prescribed under law while invoking emergency blocking powers and that the restrictions satisfied the test of proportionality.

Dismissing a petition filed by Telegram FZ LLC challenging the MeitY blocking order, a single-judge Bench of Justice Tejas Karia held that the temporary suspension of the messaging platform till June 22 and disabling of its message-editing feature till June 30 were justified in the circumstances surrounding the nationwide medical entrance examination.

Google had reinstated the application on the 'Play Store' in India after June 22.

The I&B Ministry's latest directive to Telegram comes days after the Centre issued a notice to Meta over the proposed rollout of its username feature on WhatsApp, the Meta-owned company.

The government asked Meta not to roll out the "usernames" feature in India until consultations on the matter are completed, the sources added.

In response to the Centre's notice, messaging platform WhatsApp has clarified that its upcoming username feature will be optional and reiterated that several safeguards have been built in to prevent impersonation, scams and unwanted contact as it prepares for a wider rollout later this year.

“You have to rotate the strike, and score boundaries along the ground. I thought it was a masterclass from Shreyas Iyer, understanding the situation and the dimensions of the ground. That’s something both the captain and the Indian team would have learned from those two games against Ireland,” he added.

Patel also felt India’s batting display was an important step forward after an inconsistent start to the tour during the two T20Is against Ireland, saying the innings showed the team’s ability to adapt to different conditions.

“The way India’s first two games against Ireland went, it was important for India to produce this kind of batting performance. There were obviously doubts about whether India could adapt to certain conditions and whether they could change their game plan. Looking at those games in Ireland, in my opinion, this innings was necessary for India, where you see a complete batting performance.”

India and England will now clash in Manchester in the second T20I at Emirates Old Trafford, with the five-match series still level after the rain washed out the opener.

The banking industry has mobilised an estimated $3-4 billion through FCNR-B deposits so far, according to an NDTV Profit report.

Bankers expect inflows to gather pace in the coming weeks, particularly from non-resident Indians based in the Gulf region, the report added.

The revised scheme is expected to attract $40-50 billion in fresh FCNR-B deposits over time, according to bankers. They said higher interest rates and the Reserve Bank of India's decision to bear banks' hedging costs are expected to support deposit mobilisation.

Banks have intensified outreach efforts to raise awareness of the revised FCNR-B scheme among overseas depositors. Lenders are engaging more actively with NRI customers across key overseas markets to encourage participation.

Small finance banks are offering interest rates of up to 7.5 per cent on FCNR-B deposits, while large banks are offering rates of up to 6.5 per cent or so.

Bankers expect the Gulf region to contribute a significant share of incremental FCNR-B deposits, driven by Indian expatriates living and working in the region.

The renewed interest in FCNR-B deposits follows the RBI's announcement in June that it would bear the hedging costs incurred by banks on FCNR-B deposits with maturities of three to five years. The measure is intended to encourage banks to raise more stable foreign currency deposits and support foreign exchange inflows.

The RBI has also temporarily eased interest rate curbs on certain non-resident deposits to enable banks to offer higher returns on fresh FCNR(B) and NRE deposits, with the aim of attracting more overseas funds to prop up the country’s foreign exchange reserves and strengthen the rupee. 

Under the relaxed rules that have been put in place till September 30, 2026, the RBI has withdrawn the interest rate ceiling on fresh Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank), or FCNR(B), deposits with maturities of more than three years and up to five years. It has also removed restrictions on interest rates offered on fresh Non-Resident External (NRE) deposits of three years and above.

Before the new rules were rolled out, banks were required to ensure that interest rates on NRE deposits did not exceed those offered on comparable domestic rupee term deposits. FCNR(B) deposits of three to five years were subject to an interest rate ceiling linked to the applicable overnight alternative reference rate or swap rate plus 350 basis points.

The move gives banks more freedom to offer higher interest rates to non-resident Indians, in order to mobilise more foreign-currency and rupee deposits from overseas investors and savers.

He said, “I've turned a few things down. I can't say I regret it, but I couldn't mention them. I can tell you one story about ‘Edward Scissorhands’. I read the script and I went, it's ridiculous, there's a castle at the end of this road and then an Avon lady comes around selling makeup and this kid's got scissors hands. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has enabled residents to add or update their email IDs in Aadhaar directly through the Aadhaar App, eliminating the need to visit an Aadhaar enrolment or update centre.

The facility, which became effective from July 1, 2026, is being offered free of cost through the Aadhaar App for a period of six months.

"This is a free service via the Aadhaar App only, effective 1 July 2026 for a period of six months, making it easier than ever for residents to keep their Aadhaar information up to date," the Ministry of Electronics & IT said.

The initiative is aimed at making Aadhaar services more accessible while reducing the need for physical visits, in line with the government's Digital India vision and the goal of building a Viksit Bharat.

Linking an email ID with Aadhaar enables residents to receive real-time email alerts whenever an Aadhaar authentication request is carried out.

The feature enhances transparency and adds an extra layer of security by keeping Aadhaar holders informed about the use of their identity credentials.

The new Aadhaar App has been designed to simplify access to multiple Aadhaar-related services through smartphones. Apart from email updates, residents can also update their mobile numbers and addresses using the app.

The government said over 40 lakh people have already updated their mobile numbers through the Aadhaar App, while around 10 lakh residents have used it to update their addresses.

UIDAI has urged residents to take advantage of the new email update facility by downloading or updating the Aadhaar App, which is available on both Android and Apple iOS platforms.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the country's first greenfield BS-VI-compliant integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex on Saturday. The refinery's journey has been anything but straightforward.

It witnessed two foundation-stone laying ceremonies, several announced inauguration dates, bitter political confrontations over its location, land acquisition disputes, significant cost escalation and prolonged execution delays before reaching completion.

Prime Minister Modi was originally scheduled to inaugurate the refinery on April 21, 2026. However, a fire caused by a leak in the CDU-VDU unit on April 20 forced the postponement of the event, delaying the launch once again.

With a refining capacity of 9 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) and one of the highest Nelson Complexity Index (NCI) ratings among Indian refineries, HRRL is expected to transform Rajasthan from a crude oil-producing state into a major petrochemical manufacturing hub.

The refinery was originally proposed at Lilala village in the Baytu region of present-day Balotra district. Following the announcement, influential businessmen, politicians and land speculators reportedly purchased thousands of bighas of land anticipating a sharp appreciation in prices.

However, when the government initiated land acquisition, many farmers refused to part with their land, with some reportedly demanding as much as Rs 1 crore per bigha.

Faced with mounting resistance, the then Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government shifted the refinery to Pachpadra, where adequate government land was available. The decision triggered intense political opposition.

Then Baytu MLA Colonel Sonaram Choudhary openly revolted against his own government, alleging that the refinery was being shifted to benefit the Jodhpur region by locating the downstream petrochemical complex at Kakani.

"I will sacrifice my life, but I will not allow the refinery to leave this place," he had declared publicly.

The controversy deepened further when then Revenue Minister Hemaram Choudhary resigned, making the refinery one of Rajasthan's most politically debated infrastructure projects.

Political controversies continue to surround the project. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot recently alleged that work on the refinery remained stalled for five years during the previous BJP government in Rajasthan, resulting in a sharp escalation in project costs. The former Chief Minister described the refinery as a landmark project for Rajasthan's development and said it deserved a grand public inauguration.

"I read in the newspapers today that the Prime Minister will hold a meeting inside the refinery complex instead of addressing a large public gathering. This project is a major milestone for Rajasthan, and it deserves a proper public inauguration," he said.

Recalling the project's origins, Gehlot said the refinery became possible after sustained efforts by the then Congress government following the discovery of oil in Barmer.

Claiming credit for the project, he said former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Congress President Sonia Gandhi facilitated the formation of the refinery company through coordination between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and the Rajasthan government.

Responding to Gehlot's remarks, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Rajendra Gehlot said that during Ashok Gehlot's tenure as Chief Minister, neither refinery site was finalised properly nor was a concrete implementation plan or financial framework prepared.

"The foundation stone was laid in haste merely for political mileage," he alleged.

Rajendra Gehlot further claimed that it was in 2016, under the then BJP government, that the project site was finalised and a structured financial plan was prepared.

He also alleged that between 2018 and 2023, the project witnessed little progress under the previous Congress government. "Instead of advancing the refinery work, the previous (Congress) government remained preoccupied with political concerns," he said.

Meanwhile, HRRL is a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), which holds a 74 per cent stake, and the Government of Rajasthan, which owns the remaining 26 per cent. Although the project's cost increased substantially from its original estimate, the refinery is now regarded as one of India's most technologically advanced refining complexes.

Its Nelson Complexity Index (NCI) enables it to process heavy and lower-grade crude oil from across the world into premium products such as petrol, diesel, polypropylene and other petrochemicals with high efficiency.

While most heavy equipment, including reactors, columns and storage tanks, has been manufactured in India under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, sophisticated control systems and high-pressure compressors have been sourced from the United States, Japan and Europe.

Specialists from the Netherlands supervised critical welding and finishing work to ensure global quality standards. Because Rajasthan's crude oil contains a high wax content, engineers built a specially designed heated crude oil pipeline connecting Mundra in Gujarat to Pachpadra, complete with thermal insulation and heating stations to prevent the crude from solidifying during transportation.

Once fully operational, HRRL is expected to redefine Rajasthan's industrial landscape. Beyond refining crude oil, the integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex will produce high-value petrochemical products such as polypropylene and polymers, paving the way for downstream plastic, packaging and chemical industries.

The project is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, attract fresh investments, strengthen India's energy security, reduce dependence on imported petrochemicals and position Rajasthan as one of the country's emerging petrochemical hubs.

She said the Environment Department's ambitious Rs 8,300 crore project aims to accelerate the implementation of Delhi’s air pollution mitigation plan, advance the objectives of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) and contribute to the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’.

The Chief Minister said a special workshop will be held on July 10 to finalise preparations for the programme and strengthen coordination among all stakeholders.

The workshop will define the roles of various departments and agencies and discuss the roadmap for the effective and timely implementation of the project, said an official statement.

She said the initiative will be implemented across all districts of Delhi from September 2026 to August 2033. The project has an estimated cost of Rs 8,300 crore, of which the World Bank will provide 65 per cent financial assistance, while the remaining 35 per cent will be borne by the Delhi Government.

CM Rekha Gupta said the project will focus on key sectors such as transport, road dust, construction and demolition (C&D) waste, solid waste management, industry, green spaces and water pollution.

She said the initiative is not merely a pollution control programme but a long-term investment aimed at providing Delhi residents with cleaner air, better public health and a more sustainable urban environment.

The Chief Minister said the project has been built around two key pillars. The first focuses on strengthening air quality management in Delhi.

As part of this, a dedicated Project Management Unit (PMU) will be established for effective implementation.

The project will develop modern air quality monitoring systems, data analytics capabilities and an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC)-based monitoring system.

Better coordination among various departments will also be ensured; pollution control efforts will be undertaken in collaboration with the Indo-Gangetic Plain states; and scientific planning, public awareness, training, and the adoption of new technologies and innovations will be promoted.

The second pillar focuses on reducing emissions from major sources of pollution. Under this, older and more polluting vehicles will be phased out, electric vehicles will be promoted, public transport will be further strengthened, and an advanced Pollution Under Control (PUC) monitoring system will be developed to monitor vehicular emissions.

According to the Chief Minister, all major departments and agencies of the Delhi Government will work together to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

These include the Environment Department, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Transport Department, Public Works Department (PWD), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Delhi Transco Limited (DTL), Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), Delhi Traffic Police, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Delhi Cantonment Board (DCB), DSIIDC, DTIDC, DIMTS and other related institutions, said the statement. 

The Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Government of India and the World Bank will also be key partners in the project, it said.

Sharing the fun incident, John revealed that it was an unlimited thali, and the size of the chapatis was extremely small, hence he ended up eating so many. Not just that, seeing him having so many chapatis, the waiter told John that they also have rice.

As the 'Force' actor appeared on "The Kapil Sharma Show', host Kapil asked him, "Once you ate 64 chapatis in a restaurant. Then the waiter told you, sir, there's rice too."

The serial also generated debate on a larger aspect with its emotionally charged euthanasia track, where Tulsi honoured the final wish of her bedridden mother-in-law, Savita Virani, played by Apara Mehta, who pleaded to be relieved of her unbearable suffering.

The episode, centred on euthanasia, also known as mercy killing, ignited nationwide discussions on the emotional and difficult concept.

Apart from its strong storyline and memorable characters, ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' was equally celebrated for its iconic title track.

The opening sequence went on to become one of the most recognisable introductions in Indian television, with Smriti Irani, as Tulsi Virani, welcoming viewers into the Virani household.

The camera followed Tulsi as she walked through the humongous house of Virani family named as Shantiniketan, introducing each actor as the character of the show, in their signature setting.

The director spoke with IANS along with actress Kajal Aggarwal during the promotions of the film in the city.

He said that people slog for long hours to put food on the table but, if the food that is being consumed is poisoned that the hard work goes to waste.

He told IANS, “We work hard to put the food on our plates. If there is poison in your plate, then your hard work is in vain, and it puts your children, and everyone close to them on a serious risk. So, in this film, everything has been told, what is important, what is there and what should be done. This film is for every family. It's for every Indian”.

He further mentioned, “So, after watching this film, you have to pay attention to everything, you won’t be able to sleep thinking about the gravity of the situation in society when it comes to our food. You will be shocked. But, the film also tells you how you can ensure safety".

‘The India Story’ also stars Shreyas Talpade in the lead role. The film explores the issue of pesticide misuse, food adulteration, and their impact on public health. Kajal Aggarwal plays Advocate Archana, a lawyer who joins forces with an ordinary citizen seeking justice against powerful corporate interests accused of endangering lives. Through its courtroom drama and investigative narrative, the film aims to spark discussion about food safety, corporate accountability, and environmental concerns. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 24, 2026.

Deepti, who is attending Wimbledon for the first time, shared her thoughts on how Dhoni, like Djokovic, handles pressure with calmness. "When you talk about Djokovic, everyone speaks about his mental strength. He is someone who never gives up, no matter how tough the situation is. In cricket, I think MS Dhoni sir is very similar. He is known for being very cool and calm. Whenever pressure situations come, he handles them really well. It never looks like he is in a difficult situation. He handles pressure so easily," Deepti told Jio Hotstar.

"Both Djokovic and Dhoni have that rare quality of staying calm and strong when it matters the most. Watching them, we learn how to stay calm and find a way out of tough situations," she added.

The Indian all-rounder also revealed that watching a Wimbledon match in person had been a bucket-list wish for years.

"My dream was that one day I would come to watch a Wimbledon match, and it feels really good to finally be here. When you go to watch a match at an iconic venue like this, and when you have always seen it on TV but today you are seeing it live for the first time, it feels amazing. The atmosphere, the crowd, the energy – everything is different. I am really enjoying watching tennis at Wimbledon. It just feels great," she said.

Deepti also named Djokovic as the player she admires the most, praising the Serbian's resilience and competitive spirit.

"My favourite is Djokovic. I follow his game very closely. The way he fights on the court, his mental strength, and his never-give-up attitude, I really admire all of that. Watching him play is always inspiring," she said.

"I grew up watching greats like Federer and Nadal. I followed their matches closely for a long time. But lately, Djokovic has become my favourite. I follow his matches more than anyone else now," Deepti said.

Asked whom she would like to accompany her for a day at Wimbledon, Deepti named three Indian cricket legends.

"I would choose three people to take with me: Sachin Tendulkar sir, Ravi Shastri sir, and Sunil Gavaskar sir. They are all legends in their own right, and I think watching tennis with them would be a great experience. They have so much knowledge about sports, and I would love to hear their thoughts and analysis while watching the matches," she said.

Deepti is the second Indian cricketer to visit Wimbledon in two days. On Wednesday, former India opener Shikhar Dhawan made an appearance at the Centre Court at the All-England Club.
