Sonali Bendre is back as the host of Pati Patni Aur Panga for its second season, and she admits comedian Munawar Faruqui sometimes makes the job hard, in the best way.
“In the first season of ‘Pati Patni Aur Panga,’ I was hosting for the first time with Munawar, who is such a presentable person, a stand-up comic. Sometimes, I forget that I have to host because I enjoy listening to him and I start laughing. I learned a lot from him, and I think I have prepared a little more in the second season,” she told IANS.
From Nervous Debut to Confident Host
Season 1 was Sonali’s first time as a host. “In the first season, I was finding my feet, and I am enjoying it even more,” she said, adding that the audience’s love for the first season gave the makers the confidence to return.
“There Are No Such Marriages Like Indian Marriages”
Sonali described the show as a “home-grown IP” that celebrates Indian marriages. “In our marriages, there are all kinds of entertainment. There is drama, love, fight, anger, getting angry, celebrating, eating, drinking, dancing, singing. And on top of that, there is also roasting. The girls are teasing the boys, and the boys are teasing the girls,” she said.
Why It Matters: An Original Indian Format
Much of Indian reality TV is adapted from international formats. Sonali’s emphasis on Pati Patni Aur Panga being an original Indian show matters, because its humour comes from something uniquely local: the chaotic, emotional and teasing dynamics of Indian couples. A second season suggests the format has found its audience.
