Mumbai: Actor Sunny Deol, in Patna to promote his forthcoming period drama Batwara 1947, recreated one of his most recognisable dialogues from the 1996 film Ghatak during a fan interaction.

Accompanied by his son Karan Deol, who is also part of the film’s cast, Deol addressed an enthusiastic crowd in the Bihar capital. In a clip shared by the makers and later reshared by the actor, he delivered the line: “Satoo to saath marunga, ek saath marunga, ghar main ghus kar marunga.” The audience responded with loud cheers.

In another video from the visit, Deol noted that he had returned to Bihar after nearly three decades. The father-son duo began promotions for Batwara 1947 on Sunday and were photographed on arrival at Patna airport.

The project marks a reunion between Sunny Deol and director Rajkumar Santoshi, who earlier collaborated on Ghatak. The cast also includes Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh in key roles. The film marks Preity Zinta’s return to the screen after a gap of eight years.

According to the recently released trailer, the narrative centres on a family whose lives are upended by violence, fear and forced migration. The story is understood to be a cinematic adaptation of Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai, a title that roughly translates to the idea that not having seen Lahore is akin to not having been born.

Ghatak, released on 15 November 1996, featured Meenakshi Seshadri, Danny Denzongpa and Amrish Puri in significant roles and went on to become a major commercial success. Deol’s decision to revisit a well-known dialogue from that film during the Patna event drew a warm response from fans and linked his earlier body of work with the current promotional campaign.

The visit forms part of the pre-release outreach for Batwara 1947 as the team engages audiences ahead of the film’s theatrical release.
