NEW DELHI — In a major effort to streamline regional rail mobility and relieve congestion across busy passenger corridors, the Ministry of Railways on Saturday approved key infrastructure and service enhancements across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The initiatives include merging two active express routes in UP—effectively doubling passenger capacity on the segment—and launching a daily short-distance passenger service connecting major hubs in MP.

The strategic revisions target high-density pilgrim and commuter belts, reducing transfer friction at major transit junctions while providing direct access to key economic, administrative, and religious hubs.

Expanded Transit Corridor: Chitrakoot to Pratapgarh via Lucknow

Under the newly sanctioned restructuring in Uttar Pradesh, the Ministry of Railways has unified two existing services into a single, continuous express corridor:

  • 14109/14110 Chitrakutdham Karwi–Kanpur Central Express

  • 14123/14124 Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh–Kanpur Central Express

The integrated service will now operate under Train No. 14123/14124 (Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh–Chitrakutdham Karwi Express).

To support the merged route and accommodate growing passenger volume, railway authorities have expanded the train's rake composition from 12 coaches to 24 coaches, effectively doubling its single-trip passenger capacity.

Key Route Integration Benefits

  1. Direct Connectivity: Passengers traveling between Chitrakoot and the Lucknow-Pratapgarh belt will no longer need to alight and switch trains at Kanpur Central.

  2. Intermediate Network Coverage: The 24-coach service will maintain scheduled stops across major intermediate stations, including Pratapgarh, Amethi, Rae Bareli, Lucknow, Unnao, Kanpur Central, Hamirpur Road, Banda, and Atarra.

  3. Socio-Economic Linkages: The uninterrupted service directly targets daily commuters, student populations, regional trade vendors, and pilgrims visiting major spiritual centers like Chitrakoot and Maa Belha Devi Dham.

Daily Commuter Link Introduced Between Itarsi and Jabalpur

In a parallel infrastructure push for Madhya Pradesh, the ministry has approved a dedicated daily short-distance service linking Itarsi Junction with Madan Mahal in Jabalpur over a 242-kilometer section.

The new service provides affordable transportation for smaller, intermediate agricultural and administrative townships situated along the main West Central Railway corridor.
