Mumbai, July 29 — Actress Manisha Koirala has spoken openly about the difficulties she faced during a recent fitness programme, describing a phase when consistent training and careful nutrition produced little change and left her in tears of frustration.
In an Instagram post accompanied by a video of weighted exercises—including lat pull-downs, overhead triceps extensions, lower-back extensions and yoga—and photographs of her meals, Koirala explained that the content was not intended as conventional gym imagery. “These posts aren’t really about the gym. They’re about getting my life back,” she wrote.
She said that over time, amid personal and professional demands, she had gradually neglected her health. Reduced sleep, rising stress and disrupted routines accumulated until she realised her physical condition had declined. She then set herself a clear goal: to make her health the central priority before her next film.
Despite disciplined eating, regular training, calorie tracking and attention to protein intake, the expected results did not appear. “I’d step on the weighing scale… Nothing. Every. Single. Day,” she recalled. At one point she purchased a second scale, convinced the first was inaccurate; the second reading was the same.
“I remember crying out of sheer frustration, wondering why my body wasn’t responding,” she wrote.
Medical advice later helped her adjust her expectations. Specialists reminded her that the body changes with age and that the physique of earlier years cannot be approached with the same methods. The emphasis, she said, shifted from punishing the body to understanding it. Once she altered her approach rather than simply intensifying effort, progress began.
Four months into the revised programme she reported visible improvement. “I’m still some distance from where I want to be, but I feel stronger, healthier and, most importantly, hopeful,” she said.
Koirala characterised the ongoing process as healing rather than vanity. She also offered a note of encouragement to others facing similar plateaus: “If you’re working hard and not seeing results yet, please don’t lose heart. Sometimes your body is asking for patience, not perfection. One day at a time.”
The post presents a candid account of the gap that can open between disciplined effort and measurable outcomes, particularly as the body ages, and of the value of professional guidance in recalibrating both method and expectation.
