Patna: In a major relief for social security pension beneficiaries in Bihar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday initiated the transfer of the social security pension amount for August directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Choudhary initiated the transfer at a programme organised in Munger, using a remote control and participating in the DBT process through video conferencing.
He reached the event venue at Ganga Mor around 12:30 p.m. He subsequently launched the transfer of the August pension amount to beneficiaries across the state.
Pension Amount And Beneficiary Details
Under the social security pension scheme, each beneficiary received Rs 1,100 for the month of August.
A total of Rs 1,233.87 crore was transferred to the accounts of 105.68 lakh beneficiaries through DBT.
The pension amount was credited to the beneficiaries' accounts on September 10. Beneficiaries can check whether the amount has been credited through their respective banks or via mobile and internet banking services.
Background: How The Pension Amount Was Raised
The monthly social security pension for widows, elderly persons and people with disabilities was earlier Rs 400.
During the 2025 Bihar Assembly election campaign, the then state government announced an increase in the pension amount to Rs 1,100 per month.
The NDA government retained the enhanced pension after returning to power, continuing the higher monthly assistance for eligible beneficiaries.
The social security pension programme is aimed at providing regular financial support to vulnerable sections of society, including elderly persons, widows and persons with disabilities.
A Personal Visit To Munger
Samrat Choudhary, along with his wife Mamata Choudhary, reached his native place Munger on Thursday morning and attended an observance marking the death anniversary of his mother.
His mother had also served as an MLA from the Tarapur Assembly constituency. Later, he wrote on X, "Heartfelt tribute to the revered Mother Shri Late Parvati Devi Ji on her death anniversary."
Mamata Choudhary also toured flood-affected areas of Munger. She met flood victims to enquire about their well-being and inspected arrangements at a community kitchen.
