Madhwal, Raichandani to Lead Mussoorie Thunder in T20 League
DEHRADUN — Indian Premier League fast bowler Akash Madhwal and India Under-19 vice-captain Lakshya Raichandani have been signed to spearhead Mussoorie Thunder for the inaugural Dehradun T20 League 2026, organizers announced during the official presentation of player pre-signings.
Scheduled to take place from September 2 to September 9 at the Abhimanyu Cricket Academy in Dehradun, the week-long franchise tournament features six teams competing across 18 matches. The event is designed to bridge the gap between grassroots talent in Uttarakhand and experienced professional athletes across IPL, Duleep Trophy, and Ranji Trophy platforms.
Mussoorie Thunder constructed a strong five-player core anchored by Madhwal—who rose to prominence with the Mumbai Indians—and Raichandani’s youth leadership. The franchise also secured Ranji Trophy talent in pacer Neeraj Rathore and opening batter Aryan Garg, alongside Board Trophy performer Poorvansh Dhruv.
The league’s roster reveals significant depth across all six franchises:
Rishikesh Dragons: Features IPL player Yuvraj Chaudhary alongside Ranji Trophy mainstays Saurabh Rawat, Ravinder Negi, and Aarav Mahajan, with Board Trophy player Aviral Mishra.
Vikasnagar Dhamaka:Led by Duleep Trophy batsman Kunal Chandela, backed by Ranji performer Shashwat Dangwal, Rohit Danu, Vishal Kashyap, and uncapped local prospect Vinay Aswal.
Herbertpur Knight Riders:Anchored by former IPL left-arm spinner Jagadeesha Suchith, supported by Devendra Bora, Ashar Khan, Sangam Bajpai, and Ayush Deshwal.
Selakui Strikers:Assembled a domestic core comprising Ranji Trophy players Nishchal Dega, Vijay Sharma, Aryan Sharma, and Piyush Joshi, along with uncapped talent Siddharth Gupta.
Doiwala Kings:Built around Ranji performer Avneesh Sudha, Board Trophy cricketer Aashman Gulati, and emerging local players Divyanshu Yadav, TNR Mohit, and Sarang Rawat.
Addressing press representatives at the launch, former BCCI Vice President Mahim Verma highlighted the administrative vision behind establishing a domestic T20 pathway.
"The Dehradun T20 League is a progressive and commendable initiative for the development of cricket in Uttarakhand," Verma stated. "A league of this nature will provide young and emerging cricketers with valuable exposure to competitive T20 cricket, while giving them an opportunity to showcase their talent alongside experienced players. I am confident that it will play an important role in strengthening our cricketing ecosystem."
Navneet Mishra, Chief Executive Officer of the Dehradun T20 League 2026, confirmed that match broadcasts and digital streaming details would follow shortly.
"The pre-signings reflect our vision of building a competitive and credible T20 platform that brings together established performers and the next generation of Uttarakhand cricket," Mishra noted."With Akash Madhwal and Lakshya Raichandani joining Mussoorie Thunder, we expect the energy around the league to reach another level.
