Trisha Studios Announces Research-Based Punjabi Feature Film ‘Sui - Maqboolpura Files’

At the centre of Sui - Maqboolpura Files are the stories of women and families whose experiences have remained largely outside wider public discussion. The film also brings together perspectives from lawyers, journalists and others who witnessed the circumstances surrounding the subject, raised questions and sought to draw greater attention to what had happened.

Over nearly two years, the makers undertook extensive research, studying available documents, accounts and differing perspectives. During this period, they also interacted with administrative officials, journalists, lawyers, respected personalities and individuals closely familiar with the subject.

Rather than presenting the story solely as an account of an incident or a social issue, Sui - Maqboolpura Files explores the people, relationships, choices and circumstances surrounding it. The research has been woven into an emotional cinematic narrative, with the makers seeking to retain the human depth and sensitivity associated with the subject.

The makers have deliberately kept several details of the storyline and key characters under wraps at this stage. Kiran Shergill plays a prominent character at the centre of an important emotional and narrative journey, while the identities and roles of several other characters will be revealed as the film progresses towards its release.

The film brings together an experienced creative and technical team. Suman Sahu serves as the Director of Photography, Sanjay Sankla as Editor, Tapish Soni as Production Designer and Nitasha Bhateja as Costume Designer. Abhilekh Lal is composing the Background Music. Trisha Studios is handling the film’s post-production, while Vikramjit Shergill is associated with the project as Executive Producer.

Presented by Trisha Studios and produced by Tilok Kothari, Sui - Maqboolpura Files is currently progressing through its production and post-production phases.

With its research-driven foundation and focus on human stories that have received limited attention, Sui - Maqboolpura Files aims to bring a deeply rooted Punjabi story to the screen through a sensitive and engaging cinematic narrative.
