Tips Films Returns to Distribution with Varun Dhawan Rom-Com
Tips Films re-enters theatrical distribution with David Dhawan-directed 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde. Film now set for June 12, 2026 release.
Mumbai: Tips Films Limited has announced its strategic re-entry into film distribution, spearheading the theatrical rollout of its in-house production Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, a vibrant romantic comedy directed by veteran filmmaker David Dhawan and starring his son Varun Dhawan.
The film, which also features Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in lead roles, is designed as a complete family entertainer blending high-energy comedy, romance and mass appeal. Supporting cast includes Maniesh Paul, Jimmy Sheirgill, Chunky Panday, Mouni Roy, Kubbra Sait, Rakesh Bedi and others, promising strong ensemble chemistry for multi-generational audiences.
Ramesh Taurani, Managing Director of Tips Films and producer of the project, confirmed the company’s renewed focus on distribution. The banner plans a robust nationwide strategy, leveraging its extensive network to ensure wide accessibility across urban multiplexes as well as single-screen theatres in smaller towns and semi-urban markets.
This marks a notable father-son reunion for David and Varun Dhawan, following their earlier collaboration on the 2020 comedy Coolie No. 1. David Dhawan, renowned for delivering consistent crowd-pleasers with his signature style of fast-paced humour and engaging storytelling, brings decades of expertise to the project. The film’s title draws inspiration from a popular line in his 1999 hit Biwi No. 1, adding a layer of nostalgic connect.
The release date was recently adjusted from June 5 to June 12, 2026, to avoid a clash with Yash’s pan-India film Toxic. In an official statement issued on March 10, 2026, Ramesh Taurani explained the decision: “We would like to clarify that our film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai was originally scheduled for release on 5th June, a date we had announced several months ago. However, after recent developments and considering the prevailing situation, we felt it would be more appropriate to shift our release. We strongly believe that it is always healthier for the industry when filmmakers support one another rather than compete unnecessarily on the same date. In that spirit of solidarity, we have decided to move the release of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai to 12th June and bring our film to the audiences a week later.”
The strategic shift positions the film favourably in the pre-summer window, when families and younger viewers typically seek light-hearted theatrical experiences. Promotional materials describe the project as delivering “love, madness & full-on entertainment,” with colourful visuals, energetic song sequences and the classic Dhawan brand of humour refreshed for contemporary audiences.
Screenplay credits go to Yunus Sajawal and Farhad Samji, while music is expected from the duo Sachin-Jigar. Cinematography is handled by Ayananka Bose, with costumes by Aki Narula and Samidha Wangnoo. The production has undergone prior scheduling adjustments — originally eyed for April 2026 before moving to early June — reflecting careful industry coordination and sensitivity to box-office dynamics.
Tips Films’ decision to self-distribute underscores confidence in the film’s commercial potential as a summer crowd-puller. Industry observers note that the combination of star power, proven directorial expertise and broad family appeal makes it well-suited for strong theatrical performance in an evolving Bollywood landscape that continues to value accessible, entertaining narratives alongside larger spectacles.
As the team gears up for an energetic marketing campaign, anticipation is building around the official trailer and first-look promotions featuring Varun Dhawan alongside the fresh pairing of Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde. The film is scheduled to release worldwide on June 12, 2026, in Hindi with dubbed versions planned for wider reach.
This development not only signals Tips Films’ active return to distribution under Ramesh Taurani’s leadership but also highlights David Dhawan’s enduring ability to craft reliable, audience-friendly entertainers that resonate across generations.
