"Displaced and affected families would receive financial and material assistance in accordance with established government norms," he said, framing the state's response as bound by clear, pre-existing policy frameworks rather than ad hoc decisions.

The Chief Minister added that efforts were being made to help affected families return to normal life as soon as possible, signalling that beyond immediate relief, the government's broader objective is a swift transition back to stable, pre-flood living conditions for those displaced.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed the agricultural dimension of the crisis, saying that both the central and state governments were committed to supporting farmers affected by the floods. He noted that the Agriculture Department is conducting a detailed assessment of damage to paddy, maize and vegetable crops, with officials instructed to complete the process promptly, reflecting the urgency attached to quantifying agricultural losses given how directly they affect farmers' livelihoods heading into the coming season.

How Farmer Compensation Will Work

Chouhan said that once the assessment and damage data were finalised, eligible affected farmers would receive compensation directly in their bank accounts as per applicable norms, an approach that mirrors the direct benefit transfer model increasingly used across various government relief and welfare schemes to ensure funds reach beneficiaries quickly and without intermediary delays.

During the visit, Choudhary and Chouhan inspected assistance stalls established at the relief camp by the Health, Public Health Engineering and Animal Husbandry departments, reviewing how each department's specific relief efforts were being coordinated on the ground. They also reviewed arrangements for the distribution of relief packets, drinking water supplied through tankers, and the availability of medicines, discussing these details directly with divisional and district-level officials present at the camp.

Directions to Officials

The two leaders directed officials to ensure that relief and rescue operations continued without negligence, stressing that dry rations, cooked food and medicines must reach every affected family without delay, with particular emphasis on those in vulnerable and remote areas, where logistical challenges can often mean relief supplies take longer to arrive compared to more accessible locations.

After completing the inspection, Choudhary returned to Patna according to his scheduled programme, while Union Agriculture Minister Chouhan proceeded to Bhagalpur for further assessment of the flood situation there, indicating that this visit to Munger was part of a broader, multi-district tour aimed at evaluating flood impact and relief efforts across several of Bihar's affected regions.
