Smriti Khaannaa on Why She Chose ‘They Chose Wrong Enemy’

'The Concept Felt Ahead of Its Time'

Discussing what attracted her to the project, the actress said the show's blend of artificial intelligence-inspired themes, advanced combat sequences and its fast-paced narrative immediately caught her attention.

“They Chose Wrong Enemy has a very modern concept with AI-driven elements and advanced combat techniques, making it feel ahead of its time. It's also an adaptation of a hugely successful Chinese drama, so the story is gripping and fast-paced,” Smriti said.

She added that the opportunity to learn sword fighting under the guidance of a professional fight master made the experience even more exciting.

“What excited me the most was getting the opportunity to perform sword-fighting sequences for the first time under the guidance of a fight master. That challenge really inspired me to be a part of this project, and I'm sure the audience will enjoy this exciting series.”

Playing a Warrior from Brahmashila

Smriti revealed that she portrays a fearless and disciplined warrior from Brahmashila, a prestigious Gurukul known for training exceptional fighters.

Describing her character, she said:

“I play a brave and highly skilled warrior from Brahmashila. My character is courageous and disciplined. My look is a modern interpretation of a warrior, with a powerful and stylish costume that makes the character visually striking.”

Sword Fighting Was the Toughest Part

The actress admitted that the action scenes proved to be the most demanding aspect of filming, particularly because she had no prior experience with sword combat.

She explained that handling the heavy sword while mastering proper posture, movement and combat techniques required intensive training.

“The sword-fighting sequences were the most challenging because I had never done sword fighting before, and the sword was quite heavy. Our fight master was extremely supportive and guided me throughout.”

She also noted that repeating the same action scenes from multiple camera angles made the process physically demanding but ultimately rewarding.

“I had to learn the correct body posture, movements and combat techniques while staying alert and avoiding injuries. Since every scene was repeated from different camera angles, it was physically demanding but a wonderful learning experience.”

Why Micro-Dramas Are Growing in Popularity

Sharing her views on the rising popularity of short-form content, Smriti believes today's audiences prefer quick, engaging stories that fit into their busy lifestyles.

“I think audiences today have a shorter attention span, and micro dramas fit perfectly into their lifestyle.”

She pointed out that the two-minute episode format allows viewers to consume content conveniently while enjoying a complete story without a lengthy commitment.

According to the actress, performing in micro-dramas also presents a unique acting challenge.

“In micro dramas, there is very little time to establish emotions, so every expression and dialogue has to make an impact immediately. The key is to be honest and natural so the audience connects with the character, even within a short scene.”
